9 receive Order of Merit; Santin awarded Duke Flad

Every two years, Lambda Chi Alpha recognizes dedicated alumni of the organization by awarding the Order of Merit.

During the last day of 56th General Assembly, nine brothers received one of the fraternity’s highest honors for having continuously given of themselves to the fraternity on a local and or international level.

Demonstrating the appreciation for service to the fraternity and outstanding individual and chapter accomplishments the Order of Merit is a symbol of their dedication.

The recipients of the Order of Merit this year were as listed: Wilber Bemis (Gamma-Omega 278, Minnesota), Michael Der Manouel (Iota-Gamma 822, California State-Fresno), Joe Folkening (Alpha-Kappa 962, Wabash), Dennis Grannan (Phi-Alpha 129, Eastern Illinois), Scott Jackson (Phi-Beta 426, Eastern Kentucky), Fred Kam (Epsilon-Omega 1264, Miami-FL), John Kanipe (Gamma-Upsilon 495, North Carolina State), Walt Moser (Lambda-Pi 25, University of Central Missouri), and Jim Tothill (Epsilon Psi 387,South Carolina).

Also being recognized was Armando Santin of Rollins College, the 2016 Duke Flad Award recipient.

In Lambda Chi Alpha there is no higher honor bestowed upon an undergraduate than the Cyril F. “Duke” Flad Outstanding Undergraduate Award. The award is named in memory of Lambda Chi Alpha’s second executive director who led the fraternity from 1942 until his death in November of 1968. The Duke Flad Award was created by the Grand High Zeta in 1970. Santin is now one of 46 to have won the award.
