Chapter News: January 2017
The following are the submissions received for January 2017.

Arizona State (Zeta-Psi )
The chapter earned the highest GPA on campus. They also added 17 associate members during spring recruitment. Marcus Jones, Ro Vanaki, and Kevin Clancy. Marcus have started Koine, a company committed on changing the way people raise funding for startups and recently won $55,000 from ASU in a startup competition. In addition, earlier in the year chapter members constructed a float along with Delta Zeta with the theme “ignite your spark” for ASU homecoming.
Arkansas (Gamma-Chi)
On Jan. 28, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 49 associate members. The chapter earned the second highest fraternity GPA for the fall semester.
Ball State (Iota-Alpha )
The chapter held a roller skating social with Phi Mu sorority.
Central Missouri (Lambda-Pi)
The chapter added four associate members during spring recruitment. Chapter earned second highest fraternity GPA for the fall semester. with 16 members on the dean’s list.
Culver-Stockton (Kappa-Mu)
The chapter its 150th year as an organization in 2017. Chapter members are enjoying their renovated bathrooms, a new television was installed in the chapter room, and new leather parlor furniture the historic parlor.
Cornell (Omicron)
Led by chapter President Matt Wulff (2019) and Recruitment Chairman Leo Andriuk (29109), the chapter added 19 associate members during spring recruitment. The chapter increased its cumulative GPA from 3.33 to a 3.40 for the fall semester.
Denison (Gamma-Iota)
The chapter added 14 associate members during spring recruitment. Chapter members volunteered at the Robins Hunter Museum, a local museum in town.
Elon (Delta-Pi)
During the fall semester, the chapter hosted its 20th Annual Pumpkinfest that raised 110,030 pounds of food for Feeding America.
Florida (Epsilon-Mu)
With the women of Pi Beta Phi sorority, chapter members participated in a joint service day at the local Boys & Girls Club of America on Jan. 20. Activities included playing sports and other field games.
Florida Southern (Epsilon-Xi)
Chapter members met with Mayor Wiggs of Lakeland, Florida about the future of the fraternity.
Florida Tech (Beta-Nu)
The chapter added three associate members during spring recruitment.
Indiana State (Iota-Epsilon)
On Jan. 28, the chapter held its annual alumni meeting.
John Carroll (Pi-Eta)
The chapter held its Officer Instillation Ceremony.
Johnson & Wales – Charlotte (Pi-Upsilon)
The chapter added nine associate members. Earlier this month, 25 chapter members volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank, a Feeding America partner.
Kent State (Pi-Gamma)
The following chapter officers were elected: Tyler Andrews, president; Sam Holland, vice president; Cody Marshall, vice president; Cody Knox, secretary; Tyler Hevener, treasurer; Josh Mauder, harm reduction chairman; Ethan Molitor, alumni chairman; Ethan Wiblin, fraternity educator; Nayan Jaitly, recruitment chairman; Sean Larrick, ritual chairman; Matt McKinney, scholarship chairman; Andrew Montesano, social chairman; and Dave Segan, chapter advisor.
Louisiana – Lafayette (Iota-Omega)
The chapter added five associate members during spring recruitment. Chapter brothers volunteere with Habitat for Humanity.
Loyola Marymount (Delta-Psi)
The chapter added 23 associate members during spring recruitment.
Memphis (Zeta-Theta)
The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 20 associate members.
Minnesota State (Lambda-Delta)
For the fall 2016 semester, the chapter earned 3.09 GPA.
Nebraska – Omaha (Iota-Delta)
David Castillo received the Tau Kappa Epsilon scholarship given by alumni from a competing chapter that is currently closed. A member of the Greek community receives the scholarship each year. Requirements include having made a positive impact in their chapter and also the Greek community as a whole.
New York University (Theta-Upsilon)
Brothers Jacob Abbott (right), Ginno Geocadin (center) and Matt Florkiewicz (left) – (see picture below) participated in the NYU Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Retreat, which took place in Stony Point, NY. Jacob and Matt have also taken positions as the Inter-Greek Council Vice President of Finance and the Inter-Fraternity Council Treasurer for the 2017 year, respectively. Through this retreat, these three brothers have bolstered Lambda Chi Alpha’s relations with other Greek organizations and planned out specific university-wide events with NYU administration. These three brothers also witnessed first-hand exposure to new ways to operate within the chapter and brought back those experiences to the semester High Zeta Retreat. All three of these brothers have also taken positions that deal with the management of the fraternity. Ginno has taken High Alpha, Matt has taken High Beta, and Jacob has taken High Epsilon and Executive Committee Member at Large.
Ohio State (Gamma-Tau)
The chapter boasts 100 percent service hour fulfillment from the fall semester as well as a higher average GPA than spring 2016. Daniel Lahue and Alex Turner earned a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2016 semester. Chapter members participated in the university’s Martin Luther King Day of Service.
Oregon State (Alpha-Lambda)
The chapter volunteered Oregon State Greek Life worked with community members to repack nearly 4.000 pounds of rice and beans at the Linn Benton Food Center. Joining chapter members were women from Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Alpha Theta Over winter break, chapter members learned that Ryan Olmstead had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, an auto-immune disorder that attacks the nervous system. Although brothers were spread across the country, they banded together to coordinate hospital visits and raising funds for video games so Olmstead had ways to pass the time in the hospital. The chapter has established GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.
Pennsylvania (Epsilon)
The chapter added eight associate members during spring recruitment. Ben Riedel, IFC vice president of philanthropy and chapter vice president, organized an American Red Cross blood drive.
Pittsburg State (Lambda-Chi)
Cole Hurley and Carson Scott were elected to IFC positions. On Jan. 13, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for eight associate members. The chapter earned a 3.19 for the fall 2016 semester, best of all fraternities and fourth highest of Greek organizations. On December 16, 2016, four chapter brothers graduated: Edgar Diaz, Bryant Sandoval, Christian Tavernaro, and Nicholas Treaster. All four are currently employed with Staples, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, Cerner, and Toyota, respectfully.
Richmond (Alpha-Chi)
The chapter added 19 associate members during spring recruitment. On Jan. 13, more than 20 alumni attended the chapter’s alumni recruitment banquet. On Martin Luther King Day, chapter members volunteered at East End Cemetary.
Rollins (Theta-Gamma)
The chapter added eight associate members during spring recruitment.
Simpson (Theta-Lambda)
The chapter held a winter retreat and set goals varying from 425 total service hours this semester to average 3.25 GPA.
Shepherd (Phi-Iota)
The chapter added seven associate members during spring recruitment.
South Dakota Mines (Pi-Mu)
During the Martin Luther King Day of Service, the chapter collected hundreds of pounds of food for Feeding South Dakota. In addition, they added 18 associate members during spring recruitment and held an Associate Member Ceremony on Jan. 18. After chapter elections, the following brothers were elected: Alex Schimbeno, president; Chris Fitzgerald, vice president; Nick Bennett, secretary; Joshua Duklet, scholarship chairman; Luke Videckis, Athletics Coordinator; and Jack Waters, Standards Chairman.
Southeast Missouri State (Delta-Phi)
The chapter earned the highest fraternity GPA for the fall 2016 semester. During spring recruitment, the chapter added 12 new associate members and held an Associate Member Ceremony on Jan. 29.
Southern Indiana (Phi-Xi)
The chapter added four associate members.
Spring Hill (Delta-Delta)
On Martin Luther King Day, chapter brothers volunteered to help the school’s Greenkeepers organization sort two months worth of recycled glass. The chapter added 23 associate members during spring recruitment.
Texas – El Paso (Zeta-Epsilon)
The chapter added 14 associate members during spring recruitment.
Union (Lambda-Zeta)
Alumni brother Robert Crawford received the Godlan Inc. 2016 Eagle Award for Business Consultant of the Year.
Valparaiso (Iota-Sigma)
January was an awesome month for the Iota Sigma Zeta! Since Valpo has deferred recruitment, the brothers were focused on recruitment for the first part of spring semester. The hard work paid off, as the chapter welcomed 12 new Associate Members! Also, the chapter hosted its annual philanthropy event, Smash Hunger, to raise money for Feeding America. Many different fraternities and sororities were involved, making the Super Smash Brothers tournament a big success!
Washington State (Tau)
Alumni Chairman Shay Dingfelder helped complete a new chapter website. Dingfelder also creates and publishes Tau Talks, a regular video update about chapter activities. Chapter Treasurer Keegan McAdam received an award from the Washington State University Alumni Foundation for fundraising more than $100,00 for the university over the phone.
Western (Delta-Eta)
The chapter added seven associate members. Along with members of Alpha Phi sorority, chapter brothers volunteered their time with the Boys and Girls club of London.
William Jewell (Epsilon-Nu)
The chapter added 12 associate members during spring recruitment.
