Chapter Grants

Karl Krapek Values Grants

This grant is given in honor of Foundation Board Chairman and donor, Karl Krapek, Kettering ‘72. Karl also served as the Chairman of the Investing in Future Leaders Campaign.

Three chapters will be awarded $10,000 each to:

  1. Pay for the educational costs of up to five members from the chapter to attend the 2015 summer conference, and;
  2. Pay for up to four equally valued academic scholarships for brothers selected by the winning chapters.

2015: Three ($10,000) chapter grants will be awarded

Chapter Eligibility: Chapter must document their commitment to Lambda Chi Alpha values and how they have put them into action. See the attached application for judging criteria.

Academic Scholarships – General

Graduate Academic Scholarship

Chirurg Scholarship

2015: One $2,000 Scholarship

This scholarship was established from a bequest given by alumnus James Chirurg, MIT, to provide graduate school fellowships.

Eligibility: Students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale in your undergraduate course work.
  2. Demonstrate Chapter and Campus Leadership and Involvement
  3. Demonstrate financial need
  4. Must be enrolled in a graduate school for the 2014-2015 school year

Undergraduate Academic Scholarships

James & Patricia Bernal Scholarship

Eligibility: Student must be a Lambda Chi Alpha member and meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be sophomore level student in good standing at the conclusion of the school year during which they apply.
  2. They must show involvement in one or more meaningful organizations or activities. Leadership involvement in the Fraternity may count toward this criterion.
  3. They must describe a financial need for this scholarship.

Note: A sophomore who receives this scholarship, will be guaranteed the same amount of support during each of the two subsequent school years if he shows appropriate advancement toward graduation and remains in good standing.

Clarence Mickelson Scholarship

Eligibility: Student must be a Lambda Chi Alpha member and meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be student in good standing at the conclusion of the school year during which they apply.
  2. They must show involvement in one or more meaningful organizations or activities. Leadership involvement in the Fraternity may count toward this criterion.
  3. They must describe a financial need for this scholarship.

Kirk & Nancy Pond Scholarship

2015: One $2,000 Scholarship

This scholarship is endowed by the generous gifts of Kirk Pond, Gamma-Chi Zeta at the University of Arkansas 1967, and his wife Nancy Pond.

Eligibility: Student must be a collegiate member of Lambda Chi Alpha, who submits an application showing they meet the following criteria:

  1. They must be a sophomore level student in good standing at the conclusion of the school year during which they apply.
  2. They must show involvement in one or more meaningful organizations or activities. Leadership involvement in the Fraternity may count toward this criterion.
  3. They must describe a financial need for this scholarship.

Special Consideration:

A sophomore who received this scholarship will be guaranteed this same amount of support, ($2,000), during each of the two subsequent school years if he shows appropriate advancement toward graduation and remains in good standing.

Leadership Conference Scholarships

Jack Bovender Leadership Scholarship

Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded to pay for the educational costs to attend the Stead Leadership Seminar, in honor of former Foundation Board member and donor Jack Bovender, Duke 1967 for his generous donation during the Investing in Future Leaders campaign.

2015: Up to ten $350 scholarships will be awarded for the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar

Eligibility: Students must be studying health care administration, pre-med, nursing or similar disciplines, and have at least one undergraduate year of school remaining following the conference. Applicants must also be registered to attend the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar.

Drew Hunter Legacy Fund Scholarship

Funds will be available to send officers and/or future leaders from Lambda Chi Alpha chapters who show promise of excellence in chapter operations and would be aided by additional representation at our annual leadership conferences.

The Drew Hunter Legacy Fund honors the legacy of former Grand High Alpha, Drew Hunter and his continued service to both the General Fraternity and Alpha-Pi Zeta.

2015: Three $350 scholarships will be awarded for the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar

Eligibility: Chapters that qualify must have received an evaluation from the General Fraternity that shows the exceptional promise and capability to be an excellent chapter and would be aided by additional chapter leaders in attendance at the summer leadership training. The scholarship is intended for chapter officers, but can also include future leaders. Applicants must be registered to attend the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar.

George W. Spasyk Sophomore Scholarship

Deadline: April 30, 2015

Funds will be available for sophomore leaders to attend leadership seminars and general assemblies, as the second or more man from their chapter.

This scholarship was initiated to specially honor George W. Spasyk, Michigan 1949, who served on the Lambda Chi Alpha professional staff from 1950 to 1990, and as chief executive of the Fraternity from 1968 to 1990.

2015: Five $350 scholarships will be awarded for the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar

Eligibility: Students must be enrolled as a sophomore in the fall of 2015, and must be registered to attend the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar.

To Apply: Complete the application with a 250 word essay about the importance of the fraternity during your freshman year.

 

Kevin Vasquez Leadership Scholarship

Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded to pay for the educational costs to attend the Stead Leadership Seminar, in honor of former Foundation Board member and donor Kevin Vasquez, Western Carolina.

2015: Up to ten $350 scholarships will be awarded to the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar

Eligibility: Students must be attending a public university and indicate substantial financial need. Applicants must also be registered to attend the 2015 Stead Leadership Seminar.

Scholarships – Chapter Specific

The following chapters have chapter-specific funds available for academic scholarships and/or grants to attend educational and leadership conferences. Contact your chapter’s Scholarship Coordinator to learn more and to apply.

 

  • Alabama – The Zuma P. & Charles L. James Scholarship

This Scholarship was created through a bequest by Charles W. James in memory of his wife and son. The funds are used to provide scholarships for Lambda Chi Alpha members in good standing at the University of Alabama chapter.

 

  • Appalachian State.

This fund, established in December 2007, was created to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Sigma-Upsilon Zeta.

 

  • Arkansas

This fund was established by the Gamma-Chi Alumni Association in 2000 to provide academic scholarships for selected students who meet eligibility requirements.

 

  • California Polytechnic – Spencer Wood Fund

This fund was established by the alumni of Phi-Sigma Zeta in January 2007. The purpose of the account is to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Phi-Sigma Zeta.

 

  • Central Florida, Donnie Newnham

Established by the alumni of Beta-Eta Zeta in December 2007 with funds from Donnie Newnham and other alumni. This fund is to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of members of Beta-Eta Zeta.

 

  • Drexel

This fund was established in May 2007 to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Epsilon-Kappa Zeta. Grants will be issued to members or in support of projects that meet the requirements to maintain the tax-deductible purposes of the Educational Foundation

 

  • East Tennessee State – Gary Cooper – Iota Omicron 111 Chapter Account

Established by gifts from Gary Cooper, Iota-Omicron 111 to benefit Iota-Omicron Zeta.

 

  • Eastern Illinois – Ron Wilson Fund

This fund was established in 1994 as the result of a bequest from Ronald A. Wilson and the sale of the chapter house. The purpose of the fund is to support the educational activities of Phi-Alpha Zeta at Eastern Illinois.

 

  • Eastern Michigan

This fund was created in 2000 from the monies received with the selling of the Sigma-Kappa Zeta house at the University of Eastern Michigan. The purpose of the fund is to support the educational activities of Sigma-Kappa Zeta at Eastern Michigan.

 

  • Embry Riddle

Established by the Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni Association of Daytona Beach, Inc. in 2003, these funds will be used to support scholarships, leadership training, educational materials and educational areas of the chapter property.

 

  • Florida

Established in October 2011, this fund was established by Epsilon-Mu Zeta and its alumni corporation. The funds are restricted funds held for the benefit of Epsilon-Mu Zeta for the following educational purposes: Scholarships, Educational grants to attend educational and leadership conferences, and grants for educational resources within the chapter house.

 

  • Georgia – Buddy Dillard Fund

This fund was established in January, 2006 in memory of Buddy Dillard, Georgia, to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Nu Zeta.

 

  • Georgia Tech

Established by the Beta Kappa Zeta House Corporation in December 2013 with the remaining funds following completion of the chapter house at Georgia Tech. The funds are to be used toward appropriate educational purposes such as scholarships, conference registrations, repairs or operating expenses of approved educational portions of the physical plant, and other items deemed educational according to IRS guidelines.

 

  • Illinois

The fund was established in October, 2013 by Chi Zeta and its alumni corporation as a Chapter Housing Fund. The funds are held for the benefit of Chi Zeta for scholarship grants, educational grants to attend leadership conferences, and grants for educational resources within the chapter house.

 

  • Iowa State

Established in July 2004 with funds previously held by the chapter/alumni association. The purpose of the Alpha-Tau Zeta Fund is to support the educational activities of Alpha-Tau Zeta at Iowa State University. These funds will be used to support scholarships, leadership training, educational materials, educational areas of the chapter property, and appropriate enhancements to the chapter property.

 

  • Kansas – James & Mary Fleming

Established in 2003 through the bequest of James & Mary Fleming, this fund was created to provide academic scholarships for undergraduate members of Zeta-Iota Zeta at the University of Kansas

 

  • Kettering – Art Miltner Fund

The scholarship was created in September, 1994, to permanently honor Art Miltner for his generosity to Lambda-Epsilon Zeta.

 

  • Miami (OH)

The Fund was established in March 2006, with the purpose of providing funding for the educational portions of the chapter house project, and then to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Zeta-Upsilon Zeta, as allowed by law.

 

  • Millsaps – David G. Hall Fund

Established in 2006 in memory of David G. Hall to benefit the educational purposes of the chapter.

 

  • Missouri

The fund was established in October, 2013 by Gamma-Kappa Zeta and its alumni corporation as a Chapter Housing Fund. The funds are held for the benefit of Gamma-Kappa Zeta for scholarship grants, educational grants to attend leadership conferences, and grants for educational resources within the chapter house.

 

  • Murray State – William E. Wilson Fund

Endowed by a gift from William E. Wilson, Murray State in 1999, to pay for undergraduate members and/or alumni of Lambda-Eta Zeta at Murray State to attend the summer Leadership Conference.

 

  • Murray State

Established in June 2005, the purpose of the account is to initially provide funding for the educational portions of the chapter house, and then to provide a perpetual source of funds for the educational benefit of the members of Lambda-Eta Zeta.

 

  • North Carolina

Gamma-Nu Zeta and its alumni corporation established the fund in August 2012. The restricted funds are held for the benefit of Gamma-Nu Zeta for scholarship grants, educational grants to cover attendance at leadership conferences, and grants for educational resources within the chapter house.

 

  • Oklahoma

The fund was established in October 2010 by the alumni of Gamma-Rho Zeta. The purpose of the account was to initially provide for grants for educational portions of chapter housing, but it may also provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Gamma-Rho Zeta in the future.

 

  • Oklahoma City – Grace “Mom” Cheuvront Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created in November, 1994, to honor the memory of the former Oklahoma City chapter housemother, Grace “Mom” Cheuvront.

 

  • Oklahoma State

Established in December 2002, the purpose of this fund is to support the educational activities of Alpha-Eta Zeta. The funds will be used to support scholarships, leadership training, educational materials and educational areas of the chapter property.

 

  • Old Dominion

Established through the sale of the property at Old Dominion in 2000, this fund is designated to support the educational activities of Sigma-Iota Zeta.

 

  • Rose-Hulman – Jeffrey B. and Carol Burgan Endowed Fund

Funds will be available to send a second man to summer leadership training from Theta-Kappa Zeta at Rose-Hulman. When additional funds are available, they will be used to support the attendance of students from other schools at the Lambda Chi Alpha conferences. The donors to this fund are Jeffrey B. Burgan, Rose-Hulman ’77, and his wife Carol Burgan.

 

  • San Diego – San Diego Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by the San Diego Regional Alumni Association in May 2007. The purpose of the account is to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Lambda Chi Alpha in San Diego County.

 

  • South Florida

The purpose of the Lambda-Mu Zeta Fund is to support the educational activities of Lambda-Mu Zeta at South Florida. This endowment fund was initiated with the generous gift from David P. Wright, South Florida ’70, in 2000.

 

  • Texas Christian

The fund was established in October, 2005. The purpose of the account is to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Iota-Pi Zeta.

 

  • UCLA – A. Barry Cappello Fund

The UCLA Chapter Fund and the fund established by the Cappello Foundation were combined in 2012 to best support the educational activities of Epsilon-Sigma Zeta at UCLA.

 

  • UCLA – Frank Tennant

The Frank Tennant Epsilon-Sigma Zeta fund was established in 2009 to pay for undergraduate members of Epsilon-Sigma Zeta to attend leadership training through summer conferences, or regional conclave events.

 

  • Washington – Kyle Rudow Fund

The Kyle Rudow Memorial Fund was established in August 2004 to support the educational activities of the University of Washington chapter. These funds will be used to support scholarships, leadership training, educational materials, and educational areas of the chapter property.

  • WPI

Established in December 2007, the purpose of the account is to provide a perpetual source of funds for the benefit of the members of Pi Zeta at Worcester Polytechnic.
