Meet the 2017 Intern Group

We are extremely excited to welcome our new summer interns onto staff! Ranging from communications to harm reduction, the intern group is a vital part of the busy summer season. Without further ado, let’s meet our interns!

  Chase Johnston (Communications)

School: University of Montevallo

Year Upon Return: Senior

Major: Mass Communications

Most looking forward to with internship: “I’m looking forward to seeing the amount of work it takes to make a corporation, like a fraternity, work. There is so much going on, and I get to see the behind the scenes of what we see at our chapters.”

How will this experience help you in your college career and after: “It’s going to help me get a little bit more experience with editing and camera work and stuff like that.”

What knowledge do you hope to bring back to your chapter: “From being in the communications department, I definitely think that the Lambda Chi chapter at Montevallo could use better social media skills, because we have a presence but it definitely could be a lot bigger.  I think doing more videos would be a cool thing, and I would love to bring that back.”

Fun fact: Loves to rock climb

 Kayden Lichtenauer (Communications)

School: DePauw University

Year Upon Return: Junior

Major: Communications

Most looking forward to with internship: “I’m excited about learning more about communications, because my major does not go into specific sections of communications. This way, I get to learn different parts of it.”

How will this experience help you in your college career and after: “I think it will help me with my communications skills, but also it helps me better understand the organizations that are so huge at my school, since I am not a part of the Greek system. Greek life has been huge in my family, so it’s interesting to see how everything works.”

What knowledge do you hope to gain from this internship: “I guess I get an experience that most females do not get. I think it is cool that I can relate better to my friends in fraternities when I go back to school.”

Fun fact: Can not sleep without noise

Grant Hinman (Expansion)

School: University of Richmond

Year Upon Return: Junior

Major: Mathematical Economics

Most looking forward to with internship: “I want to see how the international headquarters functions and the differences and similarities to any regular Zeta all around the nation. I would also like to get hands-on experience with data and analytics, which I will be working with.”

How will this experience help you in your college career and after: “Seeing how a work environment is inside of an office will be very helpful, because it is much different than a classroom.  Being able to build those relationships in the workplace and getting specific hands-on experience will be great.”

What knowledge do you hope to bring back to your chapter: “Because I am looking at how the entire fraternity is going to expand on a national level, I can bring back those skills to my campus, and that will be crucial to have those abilities.”

Fun Fact: Built and can walk on his own stilts

 Matthew Gilardi (Harm Reduction)

School: Wilmington College

Year Upon Return: Senior

Major: Athletic Training

Most looking forward to with internship: “I’m excited to have the networking and being able to get to know everyone at IHQ and hopefully furthering the connections I make here and in the future.”

How will this experience help you in your college career and after: “It will help by having that experience of truly working in a professional setting, whereas in college, you are doing your work here and there and going through the motions of your homework, but here in the office, we are actually able to do work and get hands-on with the material we are working with in each of our departments.”

What knowledge do you hope to bring back to your chapter: “I want to bring back how to fill out the correct paperwork and how to hold different events. I would like to get those connections in our local area to see if we can get connections out there and host an event correctly, with the correct paperwork.”

Fun Fact: Built own potato cannon

Jimmy Phillips (Alumni Involvement)

School: Franklin College

Year Upon Return: Senior

Major: Public Relations

Most looking forward to with internship: “I’m really looking forward to seeing how international headquarters works, because we really don’t know from an undergraduate standpoint. I also look forward to reaching out to alumni and expanding my network that way and have fun with the other interns.”

How will this experience help you in your college career and after: “We are getting real-world training, such as with alumni, you have to reach out and know what to say. With this internship, it will help us develop those skills on how to talk to someone that might be older than we are or comes from a different background.”

What knowledge do you hope to bring back to your chapter: “With Franklin College being such a small school, alumni are crucial to a small chapter like ours, so it is important to be able to learn different ways to talk to alumni here and be able to go back to our Zeta and be able to reach out to them and bring them together, so we are all together as brothers.”

Fun Fact: High school golf coach and plays collegiate football
