Alberta (Epsilon-Rho)
The chapter added a new associate member, Jack Huang, and held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for associate members James Lis and Adil Khamed.
Baldwin Wallace (Kappa-Phi)
Howard Cailor (1959) died Feb. 16, 2019.
Ball State (Iota-Alpha)
The chapter hosted its annual alumni banquet. Attendees included the undergraduate members, local alumni members, and a few faculty members from Ball State. The event included an award ceremony and speeches. Brothers Micah Germann and Kyle Frank were recognized for their dedication to the chapter, and Dr. Don Park was awarded the Inter-fraternal Brother of the Year Award. The keynote speaker was Mark Helmus, senior vice president of development for Ball State University, who had some great statistics on Greek Life at Ball State. In addition, chapter brothers were paired with Delta Zeta for the university’s Dance Marathon, which raised more than $615,000.
Bradley (Kappa-Upsilon)
The chapter held three brotherhood events: a card night, a Super Bowl watch party, and an outing to attend a Bradley men’s basketball game. The chapter added nine associate members.

Buffalo (Colony)
The colony held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 13 associate members. The colony will host a chartering banquet in April 13, 2019. Three chapter brothers have studied abroad: Teddy Gerstein traveled to Amsterdam, Nick Arroyo to the United Kingdom, and Giancarlo Herring-Calvo to Amsterdam.
California – San Diego (Pi-Beta)
Timothy Nordahl secured an internship with Avata Intelligence.
Central Michigan (Lambda-Omega)
Alumnus member Michael Love, an Allstate agency owner, was awarded with a 2019 Recognizing the Upward, Bright and Young (RUBY) Award, an honor given to the brightest professionals under the age of 40 in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Love is an active volunteer firefighter and medical first responder with the Larkin Township Fire Department, an academic selection committee chairman for the Midland Area Community Foundation, and volunteer who teaches 5th graders with Junior Achievement of North Central Michigan at Arrowwood Elementary School.

Chapter members participated in the Polar Plunge fundraiser and raised $218.

Filipe J. Arellano (1992) died Feb. 13, 2019.
Connecticut (Zeta-Lambda)

Evansville (Iota-Mu)
Charles A. Daum (1953) died Feb. 11, 2019. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Charlie and Mary lived with a German family during his time in the Army. In 1996, they were able to return to Germany and visit with the German family. He began his educational career as a teacher in Evansville at Baker Elementary School. After 13 years at Baker, he then became the principal at Newburgh Elementary School in Warrick County. He retired from the Warrick County School Corporation after 38 years in education as Director of Business Services in 1991.
Florida State (Zeta-Rho)
Walter Granger (1950) died Feb. 7, 2019. He retired from the FBI and then worked for many years for the Florida Bar Association.
E. Ray Solomon (1951) died Jan. 21, 2019. He worked in the insurance industry until he joined the FSU College of Business in 1962 to teach Risk & Insurance. He received his C.L.U. designation from the American College of Life Underwriters. At Florida State, he quickly rose through the ranks from Professor to Department Chair and eventually was named Dean of the College of Business. As Dean, he established an alumni association, set up the College of Business’s first fund-raising program, created endowed chairs, raised salaries, and increased research funding. He worked with late Rep. Herb Morgan to secure funds from the Florida Legislature for the Charles A. Rosetta building, currently in use today. He was Dean until 1991 and then served as the Midyette Eminent Scholar in Risk & Insurance before retiring in 1997.
Franklin (Kappa-Gamma)
The chapter has started an Associate Member Scholarship Fund to help pay for part of three associate member and initiation fees. On Feb. 16, 2019, brothers Yousf Elayyan, Colten Pipenger, Damien Miller, Thomas Akers III, and Avery Bundy attended Franklin College’s Greek Leadership Seminar.
Georgia (Nu)
Chapter brothers volunteered for the Extra Special People organization’s Big Heart at Bat event in an effort to raise money for fully accessible baseball fields in the Athens-Clarke county area.
Huntingdon (Pi-Chi)
Chapter members participated in Break in a Bag for the Dining Hall Staff and John Knox Manor Retirement Home nurses. Members scheduled a dog walking and food supply for the Montgomery Humane Society. Members participated in Lets for Vets, writing letters to veterans thanking them for their service. Members wrote Valentine’s letters to multiple hospitals for cancer patients.
Illinois (Chi)
The chapter held an Associate Member Ceremony for 10 new members: Josue Hernandez, Dennis Hsiao, Tim Munao, Alek Argoudelis, Brett Mills, Shaan Patel, Ralph Cabaya, Jason Liu, and Augustyn Crane.
Indiana (Alpha-Omicron)
Leonard L Zickler (1965) died Feb. 8, 2019. Working for Ford Motor Company in the Chicago area, he met his late wife, Victoria (Dargitz). After returning to Indianapolis, he worked in the tradeshow display business for over thirty years much of that time at Hamilton Displays, as well as Coppinger Exhibits and TechCom.
Indiana State (Iota-Epsilon)
Dr. Spiro “Bud” Mitsos (1952) died Feb. 9, 2019. He served as the Executive Director of the Rehabilitation Center (Easter Seals), the superintendent of the Evansville State Hospital, and was Clinical Director and board member of Res- Care, Inc. which he co-founded.
Johnson & Wales – Charlotte (Pi-Upsilon)
The chapter added five associate members.
Kansas (Zeta-Iota)
Fred Lamar (1963) died Jan. 30, 2019. In 1968, he joined Butler Manufacturing Company as Corporate Insurance Administrator. In 1978 he went to Farmland Industries as Director of Risk Management & Insurance, retiring in 2000.
Louisiana – Lafayette (Iota-Omega)
David P. Comeaux (1987) died Feb. 16, 2019. Dave was employed by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the Development Office and was involved in the Planned Giving Program. He had a love for photography and was the owner of Dave Comeaux Photography.
Louisiana State (Upsilon)
Wade Randolph (1979) died Feb. 8, 2019.
McDaniel (Colony)
The colony hosted recruitment events that ranged from pickup basketball in the gym to pool tournaments to video game nights. Colony brothers also volunteered in a street cleanup
Marshall (Colony)
The colony has goals to increase chapter size and make a permanent mark on the Marshall University campus.
Miami-OH (Zeta-Upsilon)
Wayne A. Hanson (1952) died January 2019. He retired from IBM in San Antonio, as the top salesman in Texas.
Thomas B. Rumer (1952) died Sept. 26, 2009. He worked for IBM and Simplex Time Record Company as a branch manager.
Minnesota – Twin Cities (Gamma-Omega)
Gordon Sohl (1960) died Dec. 17, 2018.
Missouri State (Beta-Psi)
Gerald W. Spalding (1996) died Feb. 21, 2019. He worked at Chase Bank since 2004, where he was employee of the year in 2012.
Nebraska – Omaha (Iota-Delta)
The chapter honored Lucas Luke, a graduating brother and former chapter president. On Feb. 10, 2019, the chapter held a Senior Ceremony for him. Chapter members volunteered at the Open Door Mission at the local Timberlake Outreach Center in Omaha.
New York (Theta-Upsilon)
The chapter held recruitment events such as Billiards and Pizza, Poker and Cookies, and BBQ House Tours. The Chapter added 5 associate members. Chapter brother David Bravo ran a half marathon in Copenhagen and Ginno Geocadin competed in his last squash match of his college career.
North Carolina – Chapel Hill (Gamma-Nu)
William Westbrook (1956) died Feb. 15, 2019.
North Carolina – Wilmington (Delta-Sigma)
Chapter member Xander Hoffman was crowned homecoming king for 2019. This is the second consecutive year a Lambda Chi Alpha member has received this award. Along with Lambda Chi Alpha, Hoffman is involved with Student Ambassadors, Peer Education for Health Promotions and is also a tutor on campus for historically difficult science courses.
North Dakota (Epsilon-Zeta)
From Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, 2019, the chapter hosted recruitment events that led to nine new associate members!
Lynn H. Berg (1985) died Jan. 19, 2019. He started working at Combined Independent Agencies as President of Anchor Claims Management in 1996, eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer. Due to health issues, he retired in 2013.
Northwestern (Alpha-Iota)
Bruce M. Stephen (1949) died Feb. 5, 2019.
Oklahoma City (Theta-Delta)
The chapter hosted a philanthropy week for Feeding America. The week began with a voluntary fast to set the tone for the week and those that chose to participate wore purple bands in honor of the one in four Oklahomans who are food insecure. On Tuesday, brothers put on a movie night with free popcorn for the documentary Hunger in America. On Wednesday, Theta-Delta partnered with Raising Cane’s to raise money for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. On Thursday, brothers hosted a bake sale to continue raising money for the food bank. Finally, on Friday, Theta-Delta ended the week with a date auction called “Shop the Chops” in which brothers donated dates to be sold in order to raise more money for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. In total, the events raised more than $3,000, providing 12,214 meals to Oklahomans.
L.A. Spurlin (1951) died Feb. 18, 2019.
Rose-Hulman (Theta-Kappa)
Michael R. McLear (1981) died Sept. 4, 2016. Michael was executive vice president at Core Minerals Operating Co., enjoyed serving as a chapter advisor and mentor for Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at his alma mater, and was an Eagle Scout.
Simpson (Theta-Lambda)
Dr. Robert F. Kennett (1960) died Feb. 3, 2019.
Roger L. Hansen (1949) died Feb. 1, 2019.
Slippery Rock (Lambda-Xi)
Thomas A. Ferment (1981) died Feb. 9, 2019.
South Dakota (Pi-Mu)
On Feb. 3, 2019, the chapter hosted a Super Bowl watching party and resume workshop. On Feb. 8, 2019, the chapter had a small triathlon that included limbo, cup stacking, and finally a cannonball contest. On Feb. 11, 2019, the chapter held a dodgeball game recruitment event. On Feb. 20, 2019, the chapter hosted a bowling social with AXΣ, the chemistry fraternity on campus. On Feb. 26, 2019, the chapter had another social with ADPi, a sorority on campus where the theme was “You are what you Netflix” in which we all dressed up as characters from Netflix shows. On Feb. 27, 2019, the chapter hosted a brotherhood bowling event.
Southern Indiana (Phi-Xi)
The chapter added five associate members.
Texas – Austin (Alpha-Mu)
James B. Bynum died (1964) Feb. 15, 2019. In the late 1960s, he began his political career as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. He was later elected Potter County Judge. In the mid 1980s, he became the Executive Director of the Care Unit in Canyon where he helped many people overcome their alcohol and drug addictions.
Union (Lambda-Zeta)
Gaines W. Hedges (1973) died Jan. 24, 2019. He was a self-employed marketing consultant. He formerly was an insurance agent for many years, and also formerly worked for both WTPR and the Paris Post-Intelligencer.
Valporaiso (Iota-Sigma)
Chapter brother Zach Diamond presented about cybersecurity at TEDx Valparaiso University 2019. Chapter brother Luke Weber served on the executive board for the program. For the second consecutive year, the chapter won Sigma Lambda Gamma’s Penny Wars benefitting the Susan G. Komen foundation.
E. Donald Bengel (1961) died June 9, 2018. He founded Bengel Engineering and Surveying, which he owned and operated for over 50 years. He served as Porter County Surveyor for four terms, from 1980-1996 and was active in many professional organizations. He served on the Board and was a past president for both the Northwest Chapter and the state board of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors (ISPLS). He represented Indiana as a member of the Board of Governors and Board of Directors of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and was Indiana’s delegate on NSPS’s Great Lakes Council. Don was a past Chairman of the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC).
Ted A. Niemeyer died (1962) May 19, 2017. He retired from the insurance business in 2009.
Villanova (Beta-Iota)
Chapter held a Big Brother/Big Sister fundraiser.
Wisconsin-Whitewater (Lambda-Iota)
Thomas Boelk (1972) died Feb. 2, 2019. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Tom Boelk’s passing. Tom served as the High Pi for the Lambda-Iota chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for many years and gave his time to make Lambda Chi Alpha a better organization. He was a vital resource for the men of Lambda-Iota through closure and recolonization. Tom was also an Order of Merit. Our deepest condolences to Tom’s family, friends, and brothers. He will by his brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha, extended family and customers from BiltRite Furniture where he was in sales for over 25 years.
