Chapter News & Omegas: May-June 2017

The following are the submissions received for May-June 2017.

If you cannot find news from your chapter, then no information has been submitted for this month.

Alabama (Alpha-Phi)

John Bruce died May 22, 2017.

Angelo State (Beta-Alpha)

On April 1, 2017, the alumni association a White Rose Formal at the San Angelo Country Club. The event included dinner, raffle, putting competition, awards presentation and cocktail/cigar social.  Tim Gette presented Dick Robertson with the Beta Alpha Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions and dedication to the chapter since 1968.  In addition, future the Alumni of the Year Award will include Robertson’s name going forward.  Chapter Advisor Nick Ohman gave a presentation about what Lambda Chi Alpha means to him and the impact it has had on his life.  For the 20th year in a row, the alumni beat the undergraduates in the annual softball game. Larry G. Matson died May 18, 2017. He was a former chapter president and a founding father of the chapter.

Ball State (Iota-Alpha)

Lt. Col. Thomas F. Noel died May 3, 2017.

Eastern Michigan (Sigma-Kappa)

Approximately 100 brothers attended the 40th annual canoe trip.

 

 

 

 

Ferris State (Iota-Psi)

Richard Draeger died May 16, 2017.

Indiana State (Alpha-Tau)

Robert E. Trego died May 11, 2017.

Iowa State (Alpha-Tau)

On March 25, the chapter celebrated 100 years of operation.  Events included a chapter open house and tours and examining old historical documents, photographs and composites.  The highlight of the celebration was a reception and formal banquet on Saturday night attended by 83 alumni, 31 undergraduates, 46 significant others and 13 special guests.  Following dinner, featured guest speakers included Lambda Chi CEO Bill Farkas and representatives from Iowa State University Greek Affairs, Inter Fraternity Council and the University Foundation.

 

Maryland-Baltimore County (Phi-Delta)

The chapter held a local food drive that raised more than 350 pounds of canned foods for a local food bank.

Miami-OH (Zeta-Upsilon)

For the first time ever, the chapter placed first out of all Greek groups in money raised for charity. The chapter raised $12,665 for special causes.

Mississippi State (Epsilon-Chi)

Will McWilliams died May 17, 2017.

Missouri S&T (Alpha-Delta)

In conjunction with homecoming, the chapter will host a centennial celebration on Oct. 26-28, 2017. The event will include a rededication to the chapter house after a multi-year fundraising campaign and renovation.  For a full schedule of events and additional details please visit the event website.

 

 

 

Missouri State (Beta-Psi)

The chapter had the highest GPA for the second semester in a row with a 3.28. For both semesters, the chapter had the highest philanthropic donations.

New York (Theta-Upsilon)

On April 29, the chapter held and Initiation Ritual Exemplification. Zachary Adler (middle-right in photo) became the 1000th initiated brother of the chapter. Other initiates included: David Bravo, Nishant Date, Alec Horvath, Alex Modric, Travis Schmidt, Alexander Smith, Arnav Srivastava, Hofai Tang, and Christoper Zhang.

 

 

 

Oregon State (Theta-Upsilon)

The chapter won the 81st All University SING, teaming up with the women of Alpha Phi.  In addition, the chapter also won Kappa Delta’s annual ‘Mock Rock’ spring philanthropy. Since 1988, the chapter has raised more than $290,000 for child abuse and domestic abuse prevention and education in the Corvallis community. In the 2017 competition, 27 greek lettered organizations of Oregon State participated in the annual dance competition and raised over $40,000.

 

Pittsburg State (Lambda-Chi)

Former chapter advisor Lon Moser was selected to be superintendent of The Hiawatha, Kansas School System.

Tennessee- Knoxville (Epsilon-Omicron)

S. Paul Lyle III died May 15, 2017.

Texas State (Lambda-Phi Colony)

Powers A. Boothe died May 14, 2017.

Tulsa (Epsilon-Upsilon)

Many chapter brothers are abroad for the summer in Germany, China, and a brother serving in Kuwait. Scheduled recruitment events for July including a float trip and a barbecue. The chapter earned the highest fraternity GPA and the second highest of any Greek organization.
