Chapter News & Omegas: November 2017

The following are the submissions received for November 2017.

If you cannot find news from your chapter, then no information has been submitted for this month.

Buffalo (Buffalo Colony)

The colony held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for eight associate members, increasing the number of undergraduate initiates to 39. The colony plans to submit its chartering petition at the beginning of the spring semester.

California-Los Angeles (Epsilon-Sigma)

On Veterans Day, chapter members remembered and thanked military veterans for their service and sacrifices for our freedom.





California State-Chico (Phi-Chi)

The chapter participated in Greek Week, held a Big Brother Ceremony, White Rose formal, and a chapter retreat. They also held an inaugural Lambda Chi sweetheart competition and and a safe Halloween weekend.

Drexel (Epsilon-Kappa)

Coordinated by Ian Lempitsky and Lee Jacobs, the chapter held a Big Brother Ceremony for the 13 associate members. On Nov. 9, alumni brother John McGarrigle was posthumously inducted into Drexel’s ROTC Hall of Fame and later honored during Drexel’s homecoming basketball game.


Edinboro (Beta-Delta)

The chapter held its annual Fulcrum For Food event, raising money for Feeding America. The event raised $1,500 and 15 pounds of food. Joined by women from Delta Zeta sorority, chapter members volunteered at a annual raffle at the Franklin Twp. Volunteer Fire Department. Chapter members also volunteer at the Edinboro Food Pantry and served dinner for a bishop and college students at Our Lady of the Lake Church.


Kent State (Phi-Gamma)

The chapter held its annual Pumpkin Bash, benefiting Feeding America. Chapter members participated in Kicking-It with Sigma Sigma Sigma, Phi Mu’s Miracle Crown, and Delta Gamma’s Anchorman. Chapter members also participated in an intramural football league, making it to the finals. Chapter members held a paintball and camping trip brotherhood events. Two women were selected as chapter sweethearts.

Maine (Beta)

On Oct. 15, the chapter held a meeting with the alumni association and house corporation to discuss chapter business matters and future goals, including a search for a new chapter advisor and the separation of the housing corporation and alumni association. The chapter has completed kitchen renovations, refurbished the floors of multiple rooms and fixed numerous other repairs. Trevor Britt was honorarily initiated into the chapter. He is son of alumni brother Brian Britt who also served as an educational leadership consultant. Trevor is a military veteran, who served his country while attending college and was unable to join a fraternity as an undergraduate.

Millersville (Delta-Tau)

The chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for one associate member.

Northeastern  State (Delta-Beta)

The chapter held a week-long campaign for Feeding America. The event raised more than 12,000 pounds of food, exceeding their goal of 10,000 pounds.





Oregon State (Alpha-Lambda)

The chapter held its annual Watermelon Bash philanthropy event. Sorority participants helped raise funds for Community Outreach Inc. in Corvallis, Oregon through a field day competition, watermelon eating contest, canned food sculpture contest, and the grand finale of the Watermelon Bash Pageant in the Student Union building. Delta Gamma won the pageant, while Alpha Chi Omega won overall philanthropy. In total, the event raised more than $11,000.

Pennsylvania (Epsilon)

On Nov. 4, alumni and undergraduate members participated in homecoming activities. The following weekend, the chapter held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification with many alumni brothers also in attendance.




Rose-Hulman (Theta-Kappa)

The chapter held a watermelon bust fundraiser benefiting Feeding America. Chapter brothers also volunteered washing dishes for the American Legion, taught middle school children programming in Maker Space, and participated in delivering food for Meals on Wheels. Chapter members participated in the university day of service, removing invasive species of plants from the nearby forest and planting trees for the local community.


South Dakota School of Mines (Pi-Mu)

Chapter Advisor Mark Urban talked to the chapter about mental health. The chapter held a social with the Theta Tau that included dinner and assault education. The chapter held and Initiation Ritual Exemplification for six associate members. The chapter partnered with the Mines Buddies organization to decorate a Christmas tree for the Parade of Trees on the Dec.  27.

Tampa (Tampa Colony)

The colony held an Initiation Ritual Exemplification for 19 associate members. The chapter also held its second annual Cardboard City, raising money and canned food for Feeding Tampa Bay and Tampa-Hillsborough Homeless Initiative. Chapter brothers participated in Greeks Give Back and helped clean up parts of Tampa Bay.



Union (Lambda-Zeta)

On Nov. 7, chapter members participated in Union University’s annual Campus and Community Day. During the day, more than 25 members visited a local high school and helped move old gym equipment, setup chairs for an assembly, fixed walls around the baseball field, and filled sand bags.



Washington (Alpha-Psi)

Hans Reichl died May 2, 2017. He was a former chapter president, IFC president, and served for two years on International Headquarters staff as a traveling secretary (known today as an educational leadership consultant). As IFC president, the University of Washington was named best IFC in the United States in 1961.

William Jewell (Epsilon Nu)

The chapter held its annual Pumpkin Smash event benefiting Harvesters. Organized by Tate Cooper, chapter members participated with Immune Deficiency Federation in their walk in Kansas City. Over fall break, chapter members traveled to Houston to help with hurricane recovery efforts.
