Leadership Skills Certification Academy (LSCA) Earns the Fraternal Foundation for Excellence’s 2022 Award of Distinction for Best Use of a Foundation Grant

Indianapolis, Indiana – Lambda Chi Alpha’s new officer training program, Leadership Skills Certification Academy (LSCA), received the Award of Distinction for Best Use of a Foundation Grant during the 2022 Foundation for Fraternal Excellence (FFE) Seminar, the flagship program of the FFE and the largest of its kind dedicated to education and professional development for fraternal foundation staff and volunteers.

Leadership Skills Certification Academy (LSCA) is an online training program and digital credentialing tool designed to bridge the gap between college and career. Developed in partnership with Kaplan and with significant funding of over $2 million from donors to the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation, the program combines professional development resources, functional training, real-world tools, and relevant aspects of the fraternity leadership experience into marketable skills that appeal to prospective employers.

“Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation is pleased to be able to share this special recognition for this groundbreaking program with our donors, partners, fraternity team members, and pilot program participants,” said Dan Hartmann, President & CEO of the Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation.

“This industry recognition illustrates Lambda Chi Alpha’s transformation as a premier men’s service learning and leadership development organization and reinforces how donor dollars can support extraordinary purposes.”

Delivered virtually, the Leadership Skills Certification Academy consists of learning journeys, each aligned with the roles of the chapter president, treasurer, recruiter, and vice president, that provide a blend of technical and soft skills ranging from position-specific processes to broader teamwork, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. After members complete the program, they receive digital badge credentials that help to market their skills to employers through social media platforms such as LinkedIn.

After a successful pilot period in the fall of 2021 that resulted in 31 badges awarded to early program testers, the Leadership Skills Certification Academy was launched to the full Lambda Chi Alpha membership in early 2022, ensuring that all undergraduate members could take advantage of this unique and transformational opportunity.

“By the end of this year, the fraternity aims to have over 200 members complete the LSCA, and we will also introduce a new track specifically focused on developing officers who serve in training positions,” said Simon Taylor, Vice President of Programs for Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, who has served as lead architect in developing the program.

“Using the latest tools and techniques within learning and development, this track will not only upskill our members and improve the quality of our training, but it will also provide tangible evidence, to future employers, of the learning and development skills and practices mastered. For Lambda Chi Alpha and the Leadership Skills Certification Academy, the future is extremely exciting.”

Thank you to the many individuals who made this program possible, especially the Grand High Zeta, Foundation Board of Directors, Office of Administration Team, Foundation Donors, our partners at Kaplan and Credly, and our program testers.
