Job Title: Senior Director of Development

 

Department: Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation

 

Reports to: President and CEO

 

Main Function: Responsible for the strategic direction and vision of key fundraising priorities and leading the Foundation’s development efforts. Work closely with the CEO on strategies for high-level donor prospects and maintain a personal portfolio of donor prospects. Collaborate with gift officers, fraternity and foundation board members, and other members of the senior leadership team on cooperative fundraising approaches benefiting all areas of Lambda Chi Alpha.

 

Key Initiatives: Collaborate with the Board and CEO to create and execute a development plan which increases revenues to support the Foundation’s strategic direction. Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities, including the endowment building initiative, leadership annual giving and gift planning. Build a portfolio of approximately 100 donor prospects and complete approximately 150 face-to-face visits annually, balancing discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Identify staffing needs for campaigns and ongoing development. Conduct research, prospecting, and oversee ongoing development efforts. Train and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress throughout Lambda Chi Alpha.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred. Strong managerial, leadership and supervisory skills necessary. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Understanding of donor relations and a willingness to achieve a donor-centered culture. Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to identify opportunities for critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to achieve goals. Ability and interest in managing, developing, motivating and mentoring staff.  Demonstrated ability to listen carefully to and understand constituent needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner. Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required. Five years of development experience required; seven years is preferred.
