Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, in partnership with Feeding America, raised more than 3.4 million pounds of food during the fall 2015 semester, far exceeding the original goal of two million pounds.

Since beginning the partnership with Feeding America in 2013, Lambda Chi Alpha’s 190 chapters have raised more than 9.5 million pounds. This equates to nearly eight million meals for the one in seven Americans facing hunger, including 15 million children.

Lambda Chi Alpha’s record-setting fall 2015 semester was led by chapters from the University of New Orleans (257,5000 pounds), University of North Carolina-Wilmington (252,000 pounds), and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (192,800 pounds).

“The Feeding America network continues to be very grateful to the men of Lambda Chi Alpha,” said Kelli Walker, director of corporate partnerships for Feeding America. “Not only for their incredible achievement in collecting pounds of food in their local communities but for the service and work many of the chapters provide in neighborhoods across the country.”

Since 1993, Lambda Chi Alpha has maintained an ongoing commitment to hunger relief with the former “North American Food Drive,” which encouraged chapters to donate non-perishable food. That spirit and commitment now continues through the ongoing partnership with Feeding America.

“Community service is one of the seven core values young men learn when they join Lambda Chi Alpha,” said Lambda Chi Alpha CEO Bill Farkas. “I am very inspired to know that our undergraduate men are continuing to lead the effort to end hunger across college campuses and local communities. We look forward to continuing our joint efforts with Feeding America to raise more pounds of food and to fulfill other important volunteer opportunities.

In addition to expanding the number of participating chapters and total amount of food collected, Lambda Chi Alpha believes the partnership with Feeding America has strengthened the local relationships between chapters and member food banks and increased collaborative opportunities.
