TCU Brothers Help Build Habitat for Humanity Home
About a 10-minute drive from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth is an entirely different world than what Madison Jaulin is used to. It’s where 14 members of the lota Pi Zeta chapter spent a recent Saturday helping build a Habitat for Humanity home.
“Sometimes being at TCU, you are kind of in a TCU bubble,” said Jaulin, the chapter’s High Theta. “It’s really eye opening to see how differently people who live so close to us live.”
This isn’t the first time this group of Lambda Chi’s has helped build a home. They volunteered two times in the spring and are planning to volunteer two more times this fall.
“I didn’t want it to be something I have to force them to do. That’s not service,” Jaulin said. “I wanted them to want to go, and they loved it. They love the hands on of building a house.”
There was a lot of build-up to it, he said.
“Everyone enjoyed it. All of the guys who’ve done it before were excited to go back, so there was a lot of hype,” Jaulin said. “The new guys got to hang out with the older guys and experience it together as something that’s not in a social or formal scene, but in a philanthropic scene. Overall, I think it made a good impression.”
The guys spent eight hours Sept. 30, installing all of the windows and putting up the trim and siding. They were separated into groups, each of which was led by a certified builder.
“They all want to go back and do it again,” Jaulin said.
The chapter is also preparing for its annual Watermelon Bust fundraiser Nov. 3.
